Senior Man Admiring New SmileWhen a tooth is knocked out, the supporting bone begins to shrink or resorb. This causes your remaining teeth to become misaligned, creating a problem with your bite. Dental implants could be the solution.

At Silva Dentistry, Dr. Benjamin Silva works with trusted specialists to ensure your implants are correctly placed. To learn more about our dental implant restorations, call Silva Dentistry in El Paso at (915) 591-4303.

What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are prosthetic teeth that give you results that look, feel, and function like your original teeth. They consist of two main parts: the implant post and the implant restoration. The implant post replaces your tooth root, anchoring the prosthetic tooth to your jawbone and stimulating the supporting bone to keep it healthy and provide a stable foundation for the tooth.

Dental implants are designed as permanent replacements for missing teeth, but like your original teeth, they can fail if not properly cared for. Please remember to brush and floss daily and visit our office regularly to keep your mouth healthy.

What to Expect During a Dental Implant

After the implant posts are surgically inserted into your jawbone, there will be a period of healing. Then you will be ready for the next stage of treatment: receiving the implant restorations that replace the crowns of your teeth.  Depending on how many teeth you are replacing and your individual needs, your implant restoration may be a single dental crown, a dental bridge, or a complete or partial denture. The restoration is custom-made to blend in with your smile and provide a long-lasting result. After the restoration is created, our dentist will place it atop the implant post and bond it to complete your treatment.

Types of Implants

Our clinic offers three different types of dental implants. Learn more about your options here.

Single Tooth Implants

If you have one tooth that needs to be replaced, Dr. Benjamin Silva will conduct a single-tooth implant and apply a single replacement tooth or crown. Generally, these dental implants are made with titanium and are screwed in place.

Multiple Dental Implants

If you are missing several teeth, Dr. Silva recommends a multiple-tooth implant with custom-made replacement teeth or an implant-supported bridge to replace them.

Full Dental Implant

If you are missing a row of teeth, you can start fresh with a full bridge or denture restoration.

Related Procedures

You may need additional treatments to support your dental implants depending on how healthy your jawbone is and how many teeth are missing. Common procedures include:

  • Bone Augmentation: You may need a bone augmentation to restore or regenerate the bone, including bone additives and growth factors. This process is also known as bone grafting.
  • Sinus Lift: A sinus augmentation or elevation raises your sinus floor to make room to add bone to hold your dental implants in place.
  • Ridge Expansion: If your jaw is too narrow, a ridge expansion may be needed to add bone graft material to the small space along the top of your jaw.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do dental implants require special care?

Implants require the same care as your natural teeth. Maintain proper oral health hygiene by visiting Dr. Benjamin Silva at least twice yearly for dental cleanings. At home, brush at least twice daily for two minutes with fluoride toothpaste. Floss once daily to remove plaque and food particles, and use mouthwash no more than twice a day after brushing or flossing.

Are dental implants painful?

The procedure for dental implants is generally not painful since it’s performed with general or local anesthesia to numb the mouth. However, you may experience soreness in the sums, teeth, and jaw after the procedure. The pain is typically mild and subsides after 48 to 72 hours.

How long do dental implants last?

On average, implants can last 10 to 30 years. If a crown is used, it can last 10 to 20 years. However, practicing good dental hygiene can help it last longer.

How much do dental implants cost?

On average, implants can cost $1,500 to $2,000 per implant. However, the price may vary depending on the severity of the case.

Does dental insurance cover implants?

Generally, dental insurance plans cover a portion of dental implants. However, it’s essential to understand the type of treatment you need before moving forward. Speak to your insurance provider or refer to our dentistry team for further financial assistance.
